This colorful material was designed for a girl’s kimono, and is interesting because all of the figures in the white rectangles have a cartoonish three dimensionality.

Spliced between the white rectangles and red rectangles, each of which has a horizontal or vertical dash. About half of those also have a teal-colored triangle in one of the rectangle’s four corners. All the figures in the red rectangles are two dimensional.

As shown in the close-ups above and below, the designer used three dimensionality as a clever way to introduce additional and highly contrasting colors.
