DAILY JAPANESE TEXTILE would like to thank all of its readers for joining in this year-long look at a small sliver of the amazing variety of the textiles made by the Japanese people during the Edo, Meiji, Taisho, Showa and Heisei periods. Your response has been wonderful and is deeply appreciated.
DAILY JAPANESE TEXTILE was conceived as a one year project, but even though the project is now complete, it is somehow difficult to set aside. Although there are at the moment no plans to continue into 2013, the site will remain up while new possibilities for the future are considered. Your ideas and suggestions are more than welcome.
We believe DAILY JAPANESE TEXTILE can be a valuable teaching tool, and would be happy to discuss lending parts of the collection for exhibitions at museums and universities. Please email this address.
We would like to wish everyone a very happy new year!
Thank you again for all your support throughout the year.

This post may be updated periodically.
I only learned about it in October… hope you will continue or just rerun the first 6 months for those of us who missed them… S
Whu what? A one-year project? Nooooooooooo!
thank you! your efforts are much appreciated.
I have enjoyed your post throughout the year.
Thank you for the New Years greetings, as well as the info about the end of the year cycle of postings. I wish to say that your posts show a great deal of knowledge about the subject. Question: I don’t know if you collect these textiles or sometimes sell them, but I have to ask if any of the items in your postings are for possible sale? In any case, all the best, and I hope that you are able to post from tiume to time in the future. Roger Yorke Canada

Every day I have looked forward to opening your post. Thank you for all the inspirations.
Thank you so much for this fascinating textile tour. I have eagerly anticipated each one, and have learned a great deal. I hope you will continue to feed us tidbits as the mood strikes you. I personally would appreciate more technical information on precisely how the results are achieved with the various techniques. Happy New Year to you!
I don’t think I have missed a single day since I discovered your site months ago. I’ve so often been surprised–It’s been a constant pleasure, and I hope you will continue. I’m deeply impressed by the creators’ skill and imagination, and also by the pride they clearly took in their work. I personally often wish that I knew more about the garments’ history, from the creation of the cloths, to the dying and patterns, to the circumstances in which they were created, to the contexts in which they were worn. That’s rather a lot to ask, I realize! Thanks very much, and I do hope you continue.
Happy New Year! Thanks for all the marvelous entries you’ve posted all year. I have looked forward to them each and every day. Quite am impressive effort now that we have reached the end!! Fascinated, Carole
Well, I will be VERY sad to see these posts come to an end! Yours is only one of two blogs I’ve ever followed besides my own! Even though I lived in Japan for decades, I learned something new every time I read one of your posts. I certainly did wonder who was behind all those informative posts (& still do!). If you were to continue it, I’d be pleased to continue being a follower of yours. Great job & thanks for doing it!
I was wondering if somehow we in your “audience” might send photos or questions about items we might have that we don’t know enough about. And I want to let you know that since I began reading your posts, I’ve begun looking at Japanese garments in the flea markets and shrine sales with a new, keener eye. RecentlyI bought something I never even would have looked at before, simply because you’ve educated me to the beauty of the more modern pieces. Also, I’ve owned one of those “bountiful catch” fishermen’s long coats without knowing what I had until you educated me. Thanks for opening my eyes to the beauty of things I’d seen but not appreciated! By the way, who ARE you?
Thanks for all your posts over the year – it’s been wonderful to start the day with such beautiful images and your knowledgeable commentary. It’s brightened many an otherwise dreary morning.
Happy New Year !
Your blog has been an inspiration all year…it will be deeply missed in this upcoming year. You’ve made an impact on so many…. I have no doubt it will be revisited many times – I’ve learned so much from your offerings. Thank you so very much!
Oh noes, it can’t be finished already…
Thank you so much for this blog. I have thoroughly enjoyed it. Any Japanese textile history is appreciated in the future if you can swing it.
Please continue , if possible. If not, please rerun 2012.
Thank you for all and Happy New Year.
Loved the daily posts, am very impressed with your knowledge and the collection. Please rerun.
Thank you for leaving the full year up for more in depth review. When I was checking daily, there was a pressure to ‘consume’ only that day and not check back on former items or even days of the months. Now you’ve given me that leisurely ‘freedom’ to study the textiles at my own pace.
Happy New Year!
I just discovered your site too! How on earth did I miss it? So beautiful. Thank you for leaving up the site. I can’t wait to peruse your images and I look forward to future posts.
utterly lovely . .I too am a recent discoverer.
