Kasuri Futonji (bedding cover)
Cotton
Weft kasuri, double kasuri

The geometrics and figures are characteristic of Kurume kasuri, named for the Kurume region of Kyushu in southern Japan. The chubby cheeked face in the center of some of the designs is Otafuku (literally, Much Good Fortune), also known as Okame (literally, tortoise, a symbol of longevity). Although it is often only the figured side of the futonji that is preserved, this futonji still has its solid indigo backing, with a large slit down the middle to insert the mattress into.
