This “Taisho roman” hitoe (Taisho period romantic style) seems to show pairs of mandarin ducks.

The long sleeves and bright colors indicate that it would have been worn by a young, unmarried woman.

Below, a close up of the male duck’s eye. With wonderful attention to detail, the weaver has taken the trouble to terminate the thread before it reaches the duck’s eye, and restart it after the eye.
