As noted in an earlier post, one of the modern art trends demonstrated in meisen was the move to symbolism through pictographs.  Here is another example of how the Japanese embraced modern art and made it look as though it had always been part of the kimono design vocabulary.

Despite the complexity of the design, it is achieved by weft kasuri only.
