Sagaranui (French knots)

This small wallet may have been for carrying dabbing paper. Covered almost entirely in minute sagaranui (French knots), there are two small spots on the blue leaf (top photo) that appear to have been left undecorated. The photo below includes a tape measure to give some indication of the size of the knots. A few places are decorated with a flat weave.

Below, the opened wallet. A small impression at the top shows where a closing tab used to be. This might have been metal, or ivory, and would have slipped into the slim purple cord on the facing side.
