Girl’s kimono
Silk, cotton (lining and ties)
Stenciled warps and wefts (meisen)

This young girl’s kimono also comes with a matching haori (not shown). The design reflects cubist sensibilities, and probably dates to the first third of the 20th century.

Meisen was also made with children’s motifs (see this March 27, 2015 post for an example), so this design was almost certainly made with an adult consumer in mind, even though it was cut into two child-sized garments.
